Though this post was created in partnership with the Poland Spring® brand, the following thoughts are 100% my own.
Time and again and I am reminded by the people around me and the experiences I am privy to, of the opportunity I have to connect and share powerful stories through my blog.
Much of the time these people and/or experiences have a significant impact on my life, and it should come as no surprise this time I have taken to my backyard of Boston in my latest search.
I am thrilled to have been invited to join the Poland Spring® brand’s Greatness Springs from Here™ campaign to highlight greatness within my community. The people, places, or landmarks that mean the most to me and do wonderful things for the city.
Tenzin Samdo, originally from Tibet, is known to many as a friend and humble yet supremely talented artist in the field of mixology. When you first meet Tenzin you are received in a warm, welcoming presence that is attempted by many but achieved by few.
With a smile always present on his face, Tenzin takes hospitality to new heights, commanding the highest quality of his staff, ensuring no patron feels less than a VIP, and preempting everyone’s smallest desires (before they realize them themselves!)
When I met Tenzin during his time at Trade, I was a little starstruck. He had built a name and incredible fan base due to his genuine personality, and rare talent. When he joined the ranks at Tavern Road, I followed him. It was then I began to get to know the man who does remarkable things for many.
At that time, I had just begun dating a good friend and fellow blogger. Being cautious due to our overlapping friend group, we would go to Tavern Road for “dates,” and it took all of one second for Tenzin to realize we had started seeing each other. As things became more serious, our friendship with Tenzin deepened, and we began to see all of the dimensions of the man we joked with each Thursday or Saturday evening.
Tenzin is from a culture where careers aligned with additional years of academia or corner offices are exalted, not those in the service industry. Despite a fear of disappointing others, he took a chance and a very different route. What began as a passion has created a legend with Tenzin being profiled in countless publications, and recently led to his being asked to develop his own product line that is now sold nationwide. The best is yet to come.
When it comes to family, Tenzin’s inclinations will warm your heart. I remember when he told me he was planning to propose to his then-girlfriend (a beautiful, and talented stylist from New York.) How nervous he was, and how excited we all became. He also has a beautiful son who is exceedingly brilliant beyond his years. Tenzin dotes on him and gives him the most incredible life. I don’t think I have ever seen such a happy child.
This year, Tenzin astounded us once more by becoming a partner of the most creative restaurant in Massachusetts Cafe ArtScience. He now has free reign to create cocktails that awe people visiting from around the globe, and even has his own robot serving his creations.
Tenzin keeps himself humble, reminding himself of his own remarkable journey and experiences like meeting the Dalai Lama during his visit here in Boston. He is a reminder to all those that are fortunate to encounter his presence, of where greatness will get you (and he shows no sign of stopping.)
Tenzin, thank you for inspiring me, joining me to #ShareGreatness, and for helping me kick off what is set to be the most powerful campaign of 2017.
I hope you’ll be inspired to read more examples of greatness at polandspring.com/local-greatness and stay tuned for more features of other inspiring local figures.
